Ebola Virus Disease Update

New information for August 8, 2014: According to WHO, 68 new cases of Ebola virus disease (EVD) and 29 deaths have been reported from Guinea, Liberia, Nigeria, and Sierra Leone between August 5 and August 6, 2014, as follows: Guinea, 0 new cases and 4 deaths; Liberia, 38 new cases and 12 deaths; Nigeria, 4 new cases and 1 death; and Sierra Leone, 26 new cases and 12 deaths. This brings the global total to 1,779 cases (including 961 deaths) since February 2014. The Australian government recommends avoiding all non-essential travel to Guinea, Liberia, and Sierra Leone and specifically advises those in Sierra Leone should consider leaving the country. U.S. Department of State has ordered that all eligible family members depart Monrovia, Liberia. U.S. CDC has published revised EVD case definitions.
