Measles vaccine (available in the form of MMR along with Mups and Rubella) is given in Ontario routinely in 2 doses; on or after the first birthday and at 4- 6 years old to everybody.
Recently, there have been outbreaks in North America. Measles is a very contagious serious illness especially among women of child-bearing age.
Infants aged 6-12 months of age should get a dose of a Measles containing vaccine (MMR) before travel to endemic areas and they should resume routine schedule afterwards. In other words, this single dose does NOT count as one of the routine 2 doses that are given in Ontario.
